☑️ Hochul ‘really optimistic’ four days out, heading to Hudson Valley
Today’s newsletter is really just an opportunity for me to give you a fun bingo card to print out for Tuesday. But I figured you might want to read something as well.
Gov. Kathy Hochul was in Syracuse Friday for an unrelated announcement. She told reporters after the event that she’s campaigning in the Hudson Valley over the weekend. That’s where some of the most competitive races for Congress are this year.
If you ask someone in politics how they’re feeling ahead of an election, they’re going to tell you everything’s looking good.
“I feel really optimistic. I truly do,” Hochul told reporters.
She’s come full circle in an election filled with twists, turns and no shortage of surprises. Democrats started the election cycle by tying Republicans to former President Donald J. Trump in an attempt to defeat them at the polls.
There’s been a consistent message among Democrats in just about every race in New York: that Trump was responsible for the reversal of Roe v. Wade. If someone was tied to him, they were tied to that. Then came Project 2025, which Trump disavowed but had occupied a lot of time for a few short weeks.
Hochul said Friday that she still thinks vulnerable Republicans will lose at the polls because of the top of the ticket.
“I really do believe that the final days have been just chaos for the Trump team and what he’s saying and doing — it’s just creating this sense of chaos,” Hochul said.
“The bleed-over to the vulnerable congressional seats that we have here in New York held by Republicans — it’s going to have an effect. That’s the top of their ticket. That’s not helpful to them,” she continued.
