💵 We have a state budget deal
🪙 April Fools’! We do not have a state budget deal, and I’m sorry for giving you a spark of hope to start the week.
It is technically the budget’s formal due date: April 1.
That’s the start of the state’s fiscal year. The budget plans the state’s finances over the next 12 months.
But an extender approved last week will keep the state running through this Thursday.
Not much has changed since Friday, and we know the chances of a budget deal before tomorrow are close to zero.
How do we know that? Because, even if legislative leaders made progress with Hochul over the weekend, one key step can’t be taken until tomorrow at the earliest.
