🚗 Big unpaid toll bills could soon get drivers kicked off the Thruway
Alarm bells — or car alarms — went off last May when a report from state Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli’s office found $276.3 million in unpaid tolls and fees from drivers on the Thruway.
And that’s for the tolls that were issued. License plates obstructed by drivers can’t be read by the cameras on the Thruway. New York raised the fines for that this year to $500 and repeat offenders can have their registration suspended.
But another penalty could be on the way for drivers who rack up unpaid tolls: a ban from the Thruway.
